Prepare your speech on your faith community (or another community that you are part of).

Oral Assessment!

Prepare a talk about your community (church, mosque or other community group that you are part of).

Research your faith community, whether it is Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Buddhist.

Prepare a one minute speech. You may include pictures, photographs or artefacts to support your speech.

Practice and time your speech at home.

Remember this is an oral assessment, so you will be given a level based on your speech, not on your writing.

You may wish to include some of the following points in your speech:

What does your faith community believes?
What is your place of worship is called?
What do you do in your place of worship/What happens in your place of worship?
What might you find in your place of worship?
Information about an important festival in your faith community.
Information about the different vocations in your community.
What are the important beliefs of your faith community?
Why do you think it is important to belong to a faith community?
What symbols can be found in your place of worship?

You can include any other information that you think is relevant.

4.5 Homework

Homework due on Tuesday 1 April (and no, that’s not an April Fool’s Day joke!)

Revision for your assessment next week. Your assessment will involve writing about the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will be writing this in class, and already have most of the main notes that you will need. I suggest for revision you ask someone at home to ask you questions from your exercise books. You could also write out the main key words – contrition, confession, penance and absolution – and learn the definitions, for example by writing the word on one side of the card and the definition on the other.

Below I am including some websites that might help you with your revision.

What Christians believe about forgiveness
Notes aimed at GCSE students
St Brigit’s Church: A Guide to Confession
Youth Update at American Catholic: An article about reconciliation and forgiveness
A video explaining why Catholics go to confession
A video showing the Pope leading a Service of Reconciliation last week

2.6 Homework – 7C and 7F

You have your “Word of God” assessment this week! So your homework is to revise in order to do well.

What could that include?

You could learn the key words, list the different types of writing in the Bible, work out when people might use the Bible, consider your favourite verses, or think about what “Sacred Scripture” and “Sacred Tradition” are.

Post any questions or comments you have below.
