Homework 1.6

Homework is due on Friday 17 October.

This week, 7BK2 will begin work in connection with Black History Month. We will be learning about the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign. (The weeks of action are 16 – 28 October.)

Your homework? To write a poem inspired by your learning in class. You will be learning what the Bible and the Catholic Church have to say about racism, and you will be learning about what footballers have to say about racism in sport. Be inspired to write a poem encouraging people to “kick racism out”!

I look forward to sharing the best poems here on the blog, and perhaps in the More&More school magazine. Do your best!

Here are some Bible passages that might help you:

Exodus 22:21
Leviticus 19:34
Luke 10:25-37
Acts 2:1-13

Homework 1.5

Homework due on Friday 10 October. (Apologies – the website was down last week, so this homework is late on, and by now all the homework should have been submitted. However, it hasn’t been, so I think it is worthwhile adding here.)

Copy out the Hail Mary, and begin to learn it.

Hail Mary, Full of grace,
The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Homework 1.4

Homework due on Friday 3 October.

Prepare your speech on your faith community (or another community that you are part of).

Oral Assessment!

Prepare a talk about your community (church, mosque or other community group that you are part of).

Research your faith community, whether it is Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Buddhist.

Prepare a one minute speech. You may include pictures, photographs or artefacts to support your speech.

Practice and time your speech at home.

Remember this is an oral assessment, so you will be given a level based on your speech, not on your writing.

You may wish to include some of the following points in your speech:

What does your faith community believes?
What is your place of worship is called?
What do you do in your place of worship/What happens in your place of worship?
What might you find in your place of worship?
Information about an important festival in your faith community.
Information about the different vocations in your community.
What are the important beliefs of your faith community?
Why do you think it is important to belong to a faith community?
What symbols can be found in your place of worship?

You can include any other information that you think is relevant.

7BK2 – Week 3

Homework due in on Friday 19 September.

(Sorry – I was a bit late in putting this on the blog … but because we had a special visitor to the class, I didn’t collect it in, so I will collect it next Friday 26 September.)

Complete the worksheet on What Makes A Good Community.

Describe the actions that made your group work well together.
Describe the actions that meant that your group did not work so well together.
Describe what makes a good community.

7BK2 – Week 2

Homework is due on Thursday 18 September.

Write a TAPS prayer.

This prayer should have four sections.

Thank you – Write a section of a prayer of thanks to God.
Adoration – Write a section with reasons why we could praise God.
Please – Write a section where you might ask God for something for yourself (supplication) or for others (intercession).
Sorry – Write a section where you confess the things you have done wrong that you feel sorry about.

It would be especially good if you could illustrate your prayer.

We could say some of the prayers in class over the next few weeks.

7BK2 Homework 1

Homework due on Thursday 11 September 2008.

Your homework is to produce a title page on the topic of community. You should use words and pictures. The title page should be in colour. You can find examples of work from last year’s Year 7s by clicking on this link here. There is also a short animated presentation featuring many title pages from different year groups here, to give you some more ideas. I look forward to seeing your finished pages on Thursday!

The Learning Objectives for this unit are:

1) What is a community?
2) What is prayer?
3) What is the Mass?
4) What do Catholic Christians believe about the Eucharist?
5) What happens during Mass?
6) What communities do you belong to?

Sharing good work

Here are a couple of the good title pages from the last unit. I’ve put them here to inspire you, and to encourage you to try and make your next piece of homework even better!

(If I have added your work, and you would like me to take it down, please let me know – but I hope that you will be happy to share your good work with others!)

(If you would like to see a bigger image, click on the picture.)

It might also be a good idea to have a look at some of the title pages on the Year 8 and Year 9 blogs to help you with your ideas!

Remember, if you want to add a constructive comment on the work above: 2 stars and a wish! Write down 2 good things about the work and one way the pupil could have improved it.

Homework 6 – 7C and 7F

Homework is due by Monday 29 October (but preferably before the holidays!)

Well, we have finished the first unit, which has covered the topic of Community (and the Sacraments of Initiation). This week you have a partial Homework Amnesty – if you have missed any homeworks over this term, this is your opportunity to make sure you are up to date before we start the new topic! You can follow the links to take you to any homeworks you have missed:

Week 1 – Title Page
Week 2 – Chapel Poster
Week 3 – Body of Christ
Week 4 – Assessment Speech
Week 5 – Stained Glass Window

In class you will be completing an evaluation of this unit of work. However, it would be very useful if you could also complete it online here. Remember to copy and paste the questions into the comment box, if that helps you!

1. What do you think this unit aimed to teach you?
2. Write down two new pieces of knowledge you have gained during this unit.
3. Write about a lesson where you learned the most. What happened in this lesson to help you learn?
4. Do you prefer to work in group or by yourself? Explain your answer.
5. Are there any other ways you think we could benefit your learning or improve this unit of work?

Thank you for completing this evaluation!

Homework 5 – 7C and 7F

Sorry, it was a bit late this week because of our work with Teachers’ TV and Kolbe Feast Day! (Watch this space for more on Teachers’ TV!)

Homework is to design a stained glass window which features symbols of baptism. You could perhaps include an image of a baptism (or even a picture of Jesus being baptised by John the Baptist – look through the comments on Task Four, the Flickr task, and you will find an image of John the Baptist). Or you could add a verse relating to baptism at the bottom of your window.

Some of the best could even be stuck on the windows in the Chapel! (We already have two good pieces of Year 7 homework stuck up in the Chapel – see me to find out who the lucky people are!)

7C ICT Lesson

In today’s lesson we are going to be learning more about blogging and how we can use this blog to help us learn and share ideas. So far you are used to this website being a place where I write down your homework. Now I want you to start using this blog!

There are four tasks for you to complete today. These are:

Task 1 – Internet Safety.
Task 2 – How much do you know about Blogs and Social Networking already?
Task 3 – Looking at a student example of a blog.
Task 4 – Using Flickr to find interesting images.

At the end of the lesson, you could add a comment here to say something new you have learnt, and a question you still have about using blogs.

(And if you have lots of time … you can find out more about baptism by clicking here.
